  1. Thanks for the opportunity to ask a question before Thursday, though I would not expect an answer until then. I noticed that the Old Testament, Epistle, and Gospel all speak in some way of genealogy or lineage. I was wondering about the significance of this. What is the difference between tracing your roots to Jesse, as opposed to Abraham, or even David? I am always interested in what message this might be conveying to the people of the time that may be lost on me.

  2. Robyn, that's a great observation and question. I'm not entirely sure, but my guess would be that since the Messianic line is traced to David in both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, referring to Jesse is really just another way of referring to David since Jesse is his father. But I'm curious if anyone else has other ideas.

    1. Thank you for responding. I sometimes focus on minutiae. Even in this day and age, people like to be able to trace their roots and claim "The Mayflower" or some other prominent group or figure. Not sure if the appeal is prestige, continuity, or something else.
